berry house

A farmhouse conceived as an elegant shed, this home is designed to capture sweeping rural views and ideal solar orientation for passive heating and cooling. The design utilizes an opened L-shaped plan which provides a subtle separation between the bedrooms and the living areas, capturing magnificent distant views from all rooms.

The heated concrete floor slab is topped with x-bond microcement creating a seamless continuity of space and allowing the thermal mass of the concrete to be utilised to its fullest. Solar panels and rainwater tanks are an essential part of the easy low cost living in this home. The passive solar design works so well that on sunny winters days no heating is needed.
